Scottsdale, Arizona (June 13, 2019) –Plexus Worldwide (Plexus®), a leading direct-selling health and wellness company focused on health and happiness, donated $3,714.96 following a three week penny donation drive to benefit St. Mary’s Food Bank in Phoenix.

The Plexus Penny Wars challenged employees to think about the value of a penny to families who struggle to put food on the table. Company departments competed to see which could collect the most pennies and individuals were encouraged to “sabotage” the results by donating additional coins and bills.

To ensure the count was fair, Plexus brought the donation jars to MidFirst Bank where it was revealed that Team BioCleanse, made up of employees from the I.T. and Finance-Commissions Departments, won the Penny War by collecting 70,040 pennies. MidFirst Bank donated an additional $500 and Plexus Charities, the company’s philanthropic organization, matched employee contributions to bring the total donation for St. Mary’s Food Bank to $3,714.96.

“St. Mary’s Food Bank is honored to work with Plexus,” said Lisa Notaro, Chief Development and Communications Officer St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance. “They help us with financial support, volunteer hours and are wonderful advocates for the issue of hunger throughout the entire United States.”

“Nearly one million people in Arizona are struggling with hunger and more than a third of those are children,” said Mary Ann Luciano, Vice President, Philanthropy at Plexus. “That’s why it was important for Plexus to create the Penny Wars, which is our latest effort in a series of initiatives aimed at ending hunger.”

In April, Plexus’ Scottsdale employees donated 418 hours of volunteer work at St. Mary’s Food Bank during the Plexus Week of Service. Plexus also supportsNourish One®, a one-for-one initiative where one serving of Plexus Lean™ equals one meal* for a child or family in need through Feeding America®—the nation’s largest organization dedicated to fighting domestic hunger through a network of food banks.

“I understand firsthand what it is like to grow up in a family that is food insecure, so I am thankful that Plexus is dedicated to combating hunger both in the United States and around the world with our international partner, Mary’s Meals,” said Christopher Pair, Plexus’ President of Operations and International.

Under the Nourish One Initiative, sales of Plexus Lean products outside the U.S.A. generate a monetary donation to Mary’s Meals, a global child hunger charity that feeds 1.3 million children a day. To learn more about Plexus’ Nourish One initiative, visit https://plexusworldwide.com/nourish-one.
